The
work on-site continues to progress, basically as per schedule.
Half of the concrete truck apron has been poured and stamped
in a European Fan pattern. This will allow large trucks with
trailers maneuvering through the roundabout to keep the tractor
in the travel lane, yet allowing the trailer to pass over
the truck apron. Taylor Street “triangle” between 2nd and
3rd Streets has been excavated and work will continue in this
area. The schedule for the week of February 22 is to pour
the foundation for the roundabout centerpiece which will take
about four days. The railing for the stairway to the Sunshine
Mill will be installed and curbing and electrical work will
be going on in the Taylor Street triangle. A couple of important
items;
- Late
the week of February 22, or early the following week, there
will be flagging of the traffic at the Boat Basin Overpass.
This is required as the current turn lane will be removed,
sub base and finish rock installed, in preparation for asphalt
paving the first week of March. It is anticipated that the
flagging will only affect the eastbound travel, but there
could be some minor flagging of the westbound as well.
- Munsen’s
asphalt plant is scheduled to open Monday, March 1st , and
weather permitting, we will be placing asphalt in the Taylor
Street triangle, up through the roundabout, towards the
Boat Basin Overpass. Once the asphalt is completed, temporary
striping will be done. This will probably take at least
that week to complete.
- Once
the above work is completed, the eastbound traffic will
be rerouted through the roundabout and the current eastbound
lane will be removed from Taylor Street to the Boat Basin
Overpass, so construction can begin on the south side of
the project.
